Vintage upcycling

For those of you wanting to create a wearable wedding gown from an original wedding dress.

You will need to bring your dress along with you and any ideas of what you would like to achieve. For example, if you are wanting to replace parts or mend certain areas, change the style, or simply alter the size to fit.

Don't worry if you are unsure - we can have a hands-on discussion during the workshop.

Fascinators for all occassions

Creating your own stylist headpiece to match your special outfit and personality is one of the most satisfying and rewarding projects to achieve.

Terry will demonstrate making the fascinator bases, which then sit on a comb or hair band. Depending on your choice and hairstyle you will then assemble a fascinator, combining a choice of feathers, silk flowers, horsehair braid, veiling, vintage brooches and beadwork.

Materials will be available on the day although you may like to bring along any specific pieces or colours you would like to incorporate

A lovely day, spent creating samples of gorgeously pretty headwear. Terry will show you three styles of headwear which will include designs made from silk flowers, cut lace work, or eclectic 'vintage style' bead work.

You can then choose to make a larger sample, or a number of smaller samples, combining one or more of these techniques in the form of a hairband or comb.

The techniques shown can easily be adapted to hair clips, hair vines or much more adventurous head dresses.

Terry Fox style of vintage embellishment

Terry brought her unique vintage style to the wedding dress industry back in the early 1990s.

It is a layered combination of mixed laces, ribbons and trimmings, antique pearls, crystals, mother of pearl buttons, silk flowers and stunning vintage jewellery. These precious materials are stitched, dyed and painted to rework a creative individual piece of embellishment that can be applied to corsets, accessories and interior design pieces.

The fine finishing

This workshop is all about the finer detail. Finishing is so important to the look of your final dress.

These simple details have nowhere to hide, and can have a 'make or break' effect on a beautifully made gown. Fabric manipulation is everything. How you handle the fabric, when to press, steam, stretch or ease is all key.

Fine piping,  binding and mitring , zip placement,  rouleau  loops for covered buttons and a variety of other fastenings. Spaghetti straps,  hems machined and hand rolled are all covered in this workshop.

The secrets of inner bodice control

An essential workshop for anyone making a professional gown. All the best dresses have inner fit control: you wear the underpinnings - the underpinnings wear the dress. These will not only give a perfect secure fit, but create beautiful smooth lines to your outer garment.

Including making bust cups, lace stays, stabiliser and modesty panels.

The inside secrets of how to make the outside work

This is a number one workshop that allows you a greater understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of professional dressmaking and fashion. Do you know what 'couture' means, as opposed to 'bespoke', 'home made' or 'manufactured'? By separating these categories and grouping them together with the correct methods, materials, under layers and costings, you will have a much happier and more confident approach to what you make, and it's worth.

A masterclass of fun techniques, with a seriously good finish. You will create a lovely selection of samples that I know you will refer back to when making everyday garments, such as zips, instant bound buttonholes, darts, binding, seams, collars, cuffs and more.

I love this workshop, it is full of the little tricks that you don't usually find written down. I often hear "I don't believe it! Why didn't I know that!" Sharing knowledge is a wonderful thing!!
