The Cocktail Dress ...Inspired by Dior

I will show you how I plan, prep and make a dress inspired by a Dior gown.

I thought long and hard on what to cover in this workshop. But I kept coming back to the iconic Junon and Venus designs that sum up Dior in an instant!!

These glamorous gowns are so very special, although I will introduce techniques that can easily be adapted to create a dress more suitable for a less formal event; Such as a cocktail, evening or other special occasions.

I will show you the building of the inner structure with interlayers, boning and underpinnings. We can then embellish the form with handmade petals beautifully transformed with surface decoration using a combination of layering, appliqué, tulle and lace and finished with a creative texture of sequins, beads and flowers.

You could apply all of these techniques and sew along a dress just like it. Take any one idea and incorporate it within a current project or future make or Simply sit back and enjoy the journey. You are taking a little insight into how a Couture design evolves from concept to a beautiful piece of artwork!
